1. What is Bitcoin?

You may want to join a pool, in which your CPU/GPU power is combined with that of thousands of other peoples' to increase the chances of success -- if a "block" of bitcoins is found, they are then distributed amongst you and the other pool miners according to your individual computers' horsepower.
